Fundamental Navigation Course
Participants
Pinnacle members
and their crew with limited or no navigation experience that seek
to build basic coastal navigation skills so that they may explore
familiar and unfamiliar waters safely and confidently.
ASA Certification
Students earn
an American Sailing Association certificate with this course - ASA
105, Costal Cruising. This course has no ASA prerequisites - it is
not necessary to first take ASA 101 or 103.
Coursework
This guided self-study
course utilizes the ASA's comprehensive and strait-forward DVD and
chart package to learn and practice navigation skills.
Pinnacle also
assigns each student with a personal instructor who is available via
phone and the web for guidance, to answer questions, and to provide
feedback on exercises and exams.
This course covers:
- Sources of navigation information
- Reading of
navigation charts and tide tables
- Identification of common navigation markers
and lights
- Sighting and plotting position
- Setting and piloting a course
Schedule
This course is
offered year round. Although the course is self-study, participants
must complete the course within six weeks of starting.
Cost
$300 per person
including materials, consultations with the personal instructor, and
ASA certification fees.
