Practical Navigation Course
Participants
Pinnacle members
and their crew with limited navigation or local area crusing experience
that seek to build basic coastal navigation skills so that they may
explore extended cruising waters safely and confidently.
Coursework
This full-day seminar and workshop course,
for both sailors and powerboaters, provides the practical basis for
extended cruising to Lake Michigan ports for a wonderful season on
the water.
The course is a combination of skills
lectures, with extensive hands-on plotting exercises to build or enhance
your practical navigation skills, including:
- Chart reading & interpretation
- Plotting positions and fixes
- Plotting courses
- Use and sources of standard maritime information
- Electronic navigation aids
- Extensive local-are port, harbor, and cruise briefing
- Practical Float Planning and Plotting exercises
The day also includes a gourmet lunch
catered by Wolfgang Puck where you can get to know your fellow Pinnacle
Captains and Crew – a good time for all.
Schedule
This course is
offered early in the season, generally in late May, held at the prestigious
University of Chicago Gleacher Center, on north Michigan avenue.
Cost
$290 per Captain,
plus a materials fee of $35 to cover NOAA charts, supplies and plotting
tool sets, yours to keep at the conclusion of the course. Crewmembers
may attend with Captains for a reduced rate of $145 per person.
