Fundamental
Sailing Course
Participants
Pinnacle members
and their crew with limited or no sailing experience that seek to
build the skills needed to handle their Pinnacle yacht safely and
confidently.
ASA Certifications
Students may opt
to earn two American Sailing Association certificates with this course
- ASA 101, Basic Keelboat and ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising.
Coursework
Pinnacle believes
that the best learning occurs by doing. With this in mind, this course
is conducted on your Pinnacle yacht or an identical yacht in the Pinnacle
fleet; and is structured to provide much practical, hands-on experience.
The course covers:
- Fundamental sailing
principles, practices and nomenclature
- Yacht equipment and uses
- Sail
handling, including performance capabilities and limitations
- Safety procedures including
man-overboard
- COLREGS and NAVRULES
(rules of the road)
- Marlinspike seamanship
(practical knots and uses)
- Docking and mooring
- Anchoring
- Basic chart reading
- Harbor piloting
- Night piloting
The course provides
five on-the-water sessions with one session reserved as a below-deck
rain session. Home study is also required.
Students may also
opt for a sixth session to earn ASA 101, Basic Keelboat and ASA 103,
Basic Coastal Cruising certificates.
Schedule
Pre-scheduled
weekday evenings and weekend days or evenings, early or late in the
season.
Cost
$600 per Captain
for the full course of five sessions.
Captains seeking
ASA 101 and 103 certificates may attend the optional six session,
the cost of which is $300.

course to your crew for half price - just $300 per person for the
entire five session course.
Crew may also
attend the optional sixth session to earn ASA 101 and 103 certificates
